Similar in nature to Tryfan’s East Face, taking less traffic, is Snowdonia’s other Alpine Giant, the South-East Face of Llechog. The cliff has a distinct Alpine feel to it, with its main bulk standing guard over Cwm Glas Bach. It is also a visually deceptive cliff, where nothing looks the same, from the bottom of Llanberis pass, all the way up to the base of the cliff. Furthermore, the approach is taxingly sophisticated, unless, that is, you can find the lines of least resistance. Eventually, you will gain a bilberry terrace, beneath its looming cavalry, the South-East Face proper. Indeed, if serving your Alpine apprenticeship, there are must grab climbs. Bad altitude is good altitude.
